I was lucky enough to cross on the summer solstice in 2023 and had the BEST time. I was worried that my little sports car would be too low, but it was just fine. The crew put me towards the front each time since I could maneuver easier than the trucks/SUVs.
Will 100% do this crossing again when I road trip east!
A super convenient, enjoyable, and fast way to get from Muskegon, Michigan to Milwaukee, Wisconsin or vice versa. Drive your car right onto the ferry and then relax in one of the cabins or go up on the sun deck for the 2.5 hour journey. Food is served in the galley. All in all, a very pleasant experience... even if it was a bit pricey at $100 for me and another $100+ for my vehicle.
Thank you Lake Express! We loved our trip from Muskegon to Milwaukee on Sept 9th.
We arrived 45 min before departure as instructed. We got our tickets at check in. Everything ran smoothly, was well communicated and efficient. Clean bathrooms at both departure and arrival buildings.
We loved our trip.
We had breakfast burritos (lots of salsa yay) and bloody Mary’s while we enjoyed the lounge. We did not use the internet or the VIP. But I used the sun deck a lot! It’s very windy up there. Sunglasses a must. I also loved the TVs with all the information.
Getting off the ferry in our car took less than 5 minutes and we were in the last row to leave. The lady directing traffic was polite and awesome! We were on our way savings us many hours on a drive to Stevens Point WI from western Mi.
Thanks for a cool experience and worth the price!
I visited the Lake Express dock for another reason. Waiting area inside & outside were fine. Not a lot of tourist information about Milwaukee but lots for Racine, Kenosha, Muskegon, and Michigan. Visit Milwaukee, where are you?! Behind desk and ticket sellers & security officers were very friendly and helpful. I did not go on-board however.
Completely stress-free way to get from WI to Michigan. Cabin was Abit chilly for some. They have many food items for sale. I did see a sign about credit only. But since I was using a card I didn't pay a lot of attention to it (sorry).
Have to attend a conference in Grand Rapids MI and did not want to drive from Wisco to MI thru Chicago. Checked out flights from Milw to Grand Rapids but the cost of flight and rental car was more than a roundtrip on the Lake Express. Easy check in, arrived 90 min ahead of departure, was the 3rd car in line to board. Staff at the counter were super welcoming and the car staff outside were informative and friendly! It is my first time floating on the Lake Express so this will be interesting! I purchased the regular ticketing for 1 person plus car. $488 roundtrip.
First time taking the ferry from Muskegon and then back the next day. The operation way smooth, organized, efficient, and delivered as promised. The staff was pleasantly friendly, helpful, and professional. Having quality high speed internet is a game changer as well, even at $15/trip. Food was not at all bad either as I had a pretty solid breakfast burrito.
An extraordinary experience!! Although the lake had 3-5' waves, I loved every minute of it! I loved being out on the sun deck having the wind on my face, watching as the horizon fell away.
